12 Love Fashioned Songs by Peter Foster
Peter Foster reconnected with his faith over 25 years ago. It has been the main motivating force in his life since. A graphic artist by training, Peter worked as a cartoonist and comic book illustrator for many years until his retirement..
Peter is also a talented musician and composer and makes his musical talents available at all levels. He continues his work in music ministry not only with prayer groups but also with parishes close to where he lives. On top of that, Peter has written some words and all the music for the Christian musical Call of Guadeloupe and is currently collaborating on another Christian musical Saul Saul, Paul Paul.
Peter is an expert musical arranger and his skill on the electronic keyboard/synthesiser and his deft mimicry of horns, woodwinds and string and other assorted instruments allowed us to capture all the sounds that we wanted to use.
We have made a small attempt at internationalisation by using four other languages in parts of some songs. Indonesian is sung in the third verse of As The Doe Is Pining. Valley of Dry Bones includes a French verse and The Second Coming has a Spanish verse. There is a complete Tagalog (Filipino) version of Love Fashioned Song.
This album is firstly a tribute to our God whose love, goodness and favour makes all things possible. It is secondly a tribute to the quarter of a century of faithful service in music ministry by Peter and his God-given talents. Thirdly it is a celebration, an explosion, of joyous song in many different styles and genres.
We have recorded a collection of truly contemporary Christian music which offers tangos, beguines, waltzes, country gospel, big-band swing, and more, while utilising lyrics that are inspired by the Bible.
12 Love Fashioned Songs is a unique musical experience that we want you to share with us.

Introducing the XristoVoce Singers
Combing the Greek word for Christ with the Italian word for voice, we present the
members of Voices In Christ.
Siobhan Van Prooyen grew up
in a musical family which was involved in the local musical society as well
as the local parish music ministry at St. Joseph’s West Brunswick.
Growing up, Siobhan sang in the local church and school choirs. Later she
obtained her Certificate in Performing Arts majoring in singing. She studied
Classical and Jazz. Siobhan was a cantor at her former parish in Craigieburn
and performs the same role at St. Michael’s, Berwick.
Angela Patti is a member of the music ministry at St Michael’s
Berwick where she directs as well as playing the organ. She has a fine alto
voice and has combined her singing talents with Siobhan to provide wonderful
harmonies for this recording. She comes from a very musical family.
Matt Robinson possesses a fine trained bass voice. He has sung with the Melbourne Chorale and toured overseas with the Australian Welsh Male Choir. The highlight of that tour was a performance at Albert Hall, London. Matt has also appeared in Aida and Carmen with the Victorian State Opera.
Leesa Horrigan trained as a classical singer for 12 years. She has an Associate Degree in Pianoforte. She has sung in the chorus of Chicago at the National Theatre, Melbourne as well as sharing chorus singing duties with current Australian diva, Marina Prior in Pippin. As well as appearing in chorus roles, Leesa has taken lead roles in a number of Gilbert & Sullivan productions. She started her involvement in liturgical music in 1977 after forming a folk singing group with her sisters Anita and Heidi. Leesa was the music co-ordinator at St. Joseph’s, Malvern for 6 years and currently performs that role at Cabrini Hospital.
Chris Moloughney has a striking contralto voice and an Irish heritage. She undertook 8 years of voice training and has been singing in different capacities for 22 years. Chris has released her own CD album Ireland to Island which to date has sold 5000 copies. She was a cantor at St Peter’s in Clayton for a number of years and has been the cantor at St Joseph’s Malvern for the past few years.
Angela Breardon describes herself a “just a mum”. She joined the production company for John Lee’s Call of Guadeloupe where she concerned herself with setting up the venture’s computer databases. In a casual singing session with one of the cast members, Angela discovered to her surprise that she had a good voice and was asked to join the cast. She considers that calling a privilege and hopes that she can do more parts. While she has no career aspirations she says that she recognises the influence of Mother Mary of Guadeloupe in what has happened.
David Lemewu comes from Indonesia. He sang in his school children’s choir from the ages of 7 till 11. In high school he tried solo singing with a band. He came to Australia to study Aeronautical Engineering. He finished his Master’s degree and was studying for his doctorate when his desire to serve the Lord in song became a reality. Since deferring his studies, David has been cantoring at St Francis’, Melbourne for 4 years. He also is involved in music ministry as a singer and pianist at St Augustine’s. He is an original cast member of Call of Guadeloupe playing the lead role of Diego for the past 2 and a half years. Largely self taught, David has undertaken some formal study with a private teacher.
Claire Patti is a music teacher and freelance musician. As a singer, she has a keen love for vocal ensembles and choirs. She has been a member of the QLD-based ensemble, The Australian Voices, national choir Gondwana Voices and grew up singing in the Berwick Youth Choir. She has a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from the Victorian College of the Arts, majoring on French horn and plays regularly with various orchestras. She has been a participant of the Australian Youth Orchestra and National Camp. She also plays the folk harp and has a passion for Irish music and dancing.
Tony Hosemans is a fulltime singer registered under the business name “Magical Musical Memories”, recreating memories of a bygone era for senior citizens. To date, he has performed over 3000 concerts around Australia. His credits include being guest soloist on several occasions for Blue Ribbon Day and the Koroit Irish Festival. He can also be heard at various Morning Melody shows around Melbourne and has performed at over 500 different retirement homes in the past seven years.
Roger Fedyk was a professional
musician and singer for 7 years in his 20’s when he was heavily involved
in recording and performance both live and on television. He was introduced
to the joys of music ministry with the Sacre Coeur Prayer Group in the early
80’s before leaving Australia in 1986 to pursue business opportunities.
Since returning to Melbourne in 2005, he has reignited his love for Christian
Contemporary and Gospel music. Roger’s voice spans more than 2 octaves
and can on occasions employ a useful bass register.

The Lyrics & Notes
As The Doe Is Pining : David Lemewu This song is based on Psalm 42. It has an engaging melody and is done in a modern soft rock style with lush strings, pan flute, flute and piano. It features a solo on the electric guitar. A highlight is the third verse which is sung in Indonesian and the double key change on the last verse.
|
| I Am The Vine : Chris Moloughney & Tony Hosemans Based on John 15, this song features Chris’ crystal clear contralto voice and Tony’s interesting intertwining harmony technique. It is done as a jazz waltz and features celeste, vibraphone and strings. It’s rhythmically strong jazz style is carried by the bass guitar and drums.
|
Emmanuel God Is With Us : Tony Hosemans This song is performed in strict 4/4 time in the style of Ravel’s Bolero. It opens with faint children’s voices moving closer up a valley. They are joined by male and then female voices growing ever louder and accompanied by the martial beat of kettle drums. The song features very strong female harmonies from Siobhan and Angela that interplay beautifully with Tony’s tenor. The main instruments are fanfare trumpets, French horn and two bass guitars. The song ends with a swelling timpani roll and oriental gong.
|
Blessed Be The Name : Tony Hosemans, David Lemewu, Matt Robinson, Chris Moloughney & Leesa Horrigan A 1960’s style rock’n’roll song where Tony, David, Chris and Leesa carry the melody in turn. Listen to Matt’s powerful bass underpin the chorus. The classic rock line up of rhythm, lead, bass guitar and drums is complemented by jazz organ riffs and a brass section. Flute also adds colour in parts.
|
Love Is : Angela Breardon & Tony Hosemans A delightful song with a catchy melody and lyrics, it is based on 1 Corinthians 13. It is recorded in the beguine tempo with a number of Latin percussion instruments. Angela and Tony’s vocal is complemented by a 1930’s-style harmony arrangement in the manner of The Inkspots. It features an acoustic guitar lead line as well as pizzicato strings, marimba, piano and celeste.

Love Fashioned Song : Leesa Horrigan The title song from the album, it is a play-on-words using “old fashioned song”. The style is Gospel Country with more than a hint of a tent revival meeting. Leesa’s soprano voice adds a strong contrast to the musical backing The piano solo is performed using a honky-tonk piano style with very old-fashioned phrasing. Mouth organ, Cajun fiddles are prominent as is the bass voice part by Roger Fedyk.

My Heart Is Restless : Claire Patti & Roger Fedyk The title song from the album, it is a play-on-words using “old fashioned song”.
|
Shout For Joy : Matt Robinson A rousing invitation to throw your hands in the air and to jump, dance and sing to glorify God. Matt’s bass voice carries the melody and he is helped with harmonies from Roger and some special emphasis from Chris. The song is a tribute to the New Orleans Walking Jazz Band style with tuba, sax, piccolo and trumpets.
|
The Nazarene : Claire Patti This contemplative, slow waltz is very special. Claire’s beautiful contralto is enhanced by a light arrangement using piano, French horn, muted trumpets, cello and violins. It is an exquisitely beautiful song that cannot help but move the listener as it speaks to the suffering in today’s world.
|
The Second Coming: Full ensemble Every now and then we get the opportunity to listen to a powerful song. The Second Coming is just such a song. Featuring nearly all the voices, the arrangement uses the style of the brooding Argentine Tango. With fanfare trumpets, a surprising hard rock instrumental break and a final verse sung in Spanish there is so much to capture the listener's attention. The ending is a surprise on its own.
|
Valley Of Dry Bones : Roger Fedyk This song is recorded in a jazz/show-tune style, it is an engaging and bouncy track with lyrics inspired by Ezekiel 37. Highlights include a verse sung in French and an interesting arrangement of sax and French horn solos driven by a raspy electric piano/harpsichord. Roger’s vocal is in 3-part unison with bass, baritone and tenor voicing.
|
| Wisdom Is Calling : Leesa Horrigan This song is a rhythmic cross between a samba and a cha-cha with distinct Jamaican overtones. Based on Proverbs 1:20, it is delightfully performed by Leesa with the help of the “Calypso Dudes”. The song includes a very unique saxophone solo and its message is unmistakable; the time to work on your salvation is NOW!
